I likely save 4+ hours a month by using Buffer” Onlinemarketinges: “On TikTok we went from 110k to 310k with Buffer!”

🔓Creators Unlocked: Jahleane Dolne shares some advice from her growth story |
Jahleane Dolne’s content creation efforts started with $20 she spent on a LinkedIn optimization course and turned into a 40,000-strong audience. Her content gives her audience a front-row seat to her life experiences while sharing advice one could consider big-sisterly.
She shared five things with us that creators looking to grow an audience while keeping their personality at the forefront should keep in mind. |
-
Embrace authenticity in your content: Lean into your expertise as told by your story. The stuff that resonates with Jahleane’s audience is her career content. But she takes a personable approach, advising while drinking tea or doing her skincare routine. She’s also transparent, even in moments that would be uncomfortable for many to share publically.
-
Pull from your experiences to create: Speaking of uncomfortable moments, Jahleane is very open to sharing life as it happens (the story of how she tore both her ACLs comes to mind). More recently, is an example of her sharing how she was laid off from her job in tech sales due to company restructuring. The honesty and transparency is part of what creates the connection Jahleane’s audience feels to her.
-
Diversify your platforms in anticipation of change: The Internet is always changing, and staying ahead of the curve is a must for any creator. For example, the news of a potential TikTok ban got Jahleane thinking about how to diversify her platform presence. In response, she’s started posting on YouTube Shorts and working on building my mailing list. She emphasizes that it’s vital to own your content and control whatever you can of your digital presence — even as you grow on social media.
-
Find a community to help you navigate bias in content creation: Identity is a core part of Jahleane’s work as her primary audience comprises BIPOC women. With her and her audience’s shared identity come issues of bias. She’s highlighted that there have been no outward, aggressive displays of bias but has speculated, and she wouldn’t be wrong to do so. Jahleane advises anyone with a similar background to join networks where information about pay is openly shared to ensure you're aware of fair compensation for your work.
And Jahleane’s parting words are to anyone who feels like they might have missed the train on content creation — start. “Don't be the first person to tell yourself "No." Often, the only thing holding you back is yourself.” |

📱 Social Tip of The Week from Mitra, Buffer’s Social Media Manager |
Something we recommend doing when repurposing your videos from one short-form platform to another is re-adding your text directly in-app (We put the new text directly over the old text so you can’t see it).
Through experimenting with this, we noticed that once we started re-adding text directly in YouTube Shorts, our views were much higher than when we were reposting from TikTok without making any edits. There may be some text recognition when doing this, which helps with video distribution.
Here’s an example of a video we originally shared on TikTok, and we repurposed it for YouTube Shorts here. |
